the travel

Avoid camping in low places--Air flow gets stagnant and typically moisture settles more. Also, if it rains whilst your tent is up, there's a greater chance of water collecting when you're camped in a low lying area. Lastly, position your tent so that your head is uphill wherever you camp (seeing as most locations are rarely ever flat).

Ventilation--It's better to face the tail of your tent into prevailing winds. This will maximize air flow.
Scrutinize the area--Check the area for sharp objects that may damage your tent before setting up camp.

Set Up-- Once your tent is set up, if you notice wrinkles running from one corner to the next (interior), this means that you've pulled the tent too tightly in that direction. Reposition the stakes until the floor evens out.

Looking Good--Last but certainly not least: If you've never set up your tent before, it's best to practice at home until you can do it in your sleep (bit of an exaggeration...but you know what I mean). This will save you any embarrassment later on in the 'Real World'.

Tent Care

Keep it dry-- Never store your tent when it's wet or damp! Consequences of forgetting this cardinal rule is mildew damage and tent stink. So, dry it after use (but not in direct sunshine).

Reduce condensation build up--Sometimes condensation may become a real issue, especially in certain types of tents. One of the ways to combat this, is to spray the outside of your tent with a product like ReviveX which beads up water so it rolls off the tent's surface (think of water rolling off a duck's back).
Ground Cloth--Use one. It will protect your tent bottom from protruding objects.

Sweep out your tent--accumulated dirt between your sleeping bag and the floor will gradually erode the tent floor.
Sunshine--Don't leave your tent in the sun for prolonged periods--ultra-violet rays damage the tent fabric and its waterproofing capabilities. If you can, set up in the shade.

Seams--Seal them all. In this particular case, water is not your friend. Keep it out!

Transporting your tent--Constantly folding your tent the same way will eventually cause creases that will compromise its weatherproofing and ultimately crack the fabric itself. Solution? Stuff it for transportation.

Packaging of your tent--The keyword here is "carefully" (assuming you have any concern about its lifespan). Poles dent, break, chip and cords stretch. Also bear in mind that poles and stakes can tear and poke holes in the tent fabric.

Tent Types

The following is not an indepth treatise of the types of tents available but rather a brief review.

Dome Tents

This type of tent has a rudimentary dome shape formed by inward curving walls that meet atop at the apex. Advantages: ample headroom and ability to sit upright. Disadvantages: Two pole design leaves a significant portion of unsupported tent material restricting this type of tent's use to moderate weather conditions.

Modified Dome Tents

Same as the dome tent with a few variations: addition of more poles plus cross-section rods, as well as tapered ends. Advantages: better able to withstand harsh weather and mounting wind levels.

Pyramid Tent

In essence this is little more than a waterproof tarp staked to the ground and draped over a central pole. Advantages: easy to set up. Disadvantages: it's sheer simplicity does not accommodate for the presence of bugs and other crawlies.

Tunnel Tent

As the name suggests this type of tent is designed in the shape of a tunnel. Usually the front has the most ceiling height (just enough to sit up) and tapers towards the rear. This tent type incorporates a single or dual pole design with the longer pole upfront. Advantages: Very lightweight. Disadvantages: Design type tends towards being cramped

Being responsible for the sales of thousands of flight tickets, Airlines prefer to provide exclusive fares to Consolidators. They get the fares from airlines on negotiated rates depending on their long term relations with them. Travel agencies seek Airline consolidator to ensure sufficient profit while giving attractive discounts to their customers. The diversity in travel field brought more air traffic that made the travel agencies spur the travel business in one way or another. The travel agents find airline ticket consolidators huge source to get their revenue increased. By getting in contact with airline consolidators, they can extend their flight bookings up to a great extent.

Let us take a shift ahead with a better understanding of airfare consolidators. They sell a bulk of airlines tickets by sourcing Discounted Fares from Airlines. They further pass the negotiated airfares to the travel agencies so that these agencies can add required markups while giving attractive discounts to their customers. The catch for travel agents here is to maintain the private fares below published fares and pass on to the customers that ultimately get lower fares than published fares. Purchasing the air tickets in bulk from airfare consolidators that already have their commissions set with airlines proved valuable to many of the travel service providers. The business is made flexible for both consolidators as well as the travel agencies. Consolidator fares make these travel management companies turn up the business by getting around 45% commissions on flight fares commonly.

Published and Private fares

A published fare is the same for anyone they are easily attainable through Airlines' websites. However, the Unpublished airfares that are also referred to as private fares or consolidator fares, are offered to travel agencies or travel agents at a net price, that can be around 30-60% lower than regular airfares. That let travel agents earn great commissions which allow them to offer adequate discounts to their customers even after setting decent markups. Some of them wait for the time when they can get the maximum drop in price due to seasonal discounts.

We all know very well about the importance of online booking engines. Though a bug-free travel portal is a plus point still teaming up with the big airline consolidators for international fares can make a huge difference to travel businesses. With them, travel service providers get access to discounted airfare content across multiple GDS. Yes, earlier, they might be limited to a single GDS or two, but pairing up with leading airline consolidators, provides the best deals across multiple GDS. TMC(s) can expect a tremendous increase in their dividends by saving up to 60% on published fares with the help of airfare consolidators. In order to keep the graph high, these airline consolidators make good terms with Airlines by distributing private fares to various travel agencies in the act of selling more and more airline tickets. Thereby, travel entities can book the lowest fares across multiple GDS or non-GDS sources to present the best deals to customers.

Brings best deals for travel agents

Airline consolidators are capable of negotiating fares with airlines. Travel agencies that book fares for customers demanding seats in premium classes can make a healthy profit after purchasing the same on consolidator fares. Apart from that, travel agencies can buy airfares that are commonly booked depending on frequent regional traffic. The diversified airfare content by these consolidators allows them to save a huge amount on international fares. With this, travel management companies can book the right fares for customers with more attractive deals on holiday packages too. Teaming up with airline consolidators makes travel companies earn even more. As it allows them to access multi GDS content at a time. That helps them present nice deals to their customers while making enough profit for themselves.

The kind of backpack you bring will make a huge impact on your outdoor trips. Whether you prefer car camping, tent camping or plenty of hiking, the most important thing to remember is to choose a backpack that will fit your personal needs.

There are 3 main things to consider when choosing a backpack for camping and hiking - the capacity, the fit and the features.

Consider these factors when choosing the best backpack for camping and hiking:

Capacity

This pertains to the size of your pack, depending on how much you plan to carry and how long your trip is going to be. There are various types of camping or hiking backpacks, each designed for a different length of trip.

There's the Weekend Backpack which is typically good for short trips (1-3 nights) and for those who pack light. These can carry 30 to 50 liters. If you're not a light packer or your trip goes beyond a couple of days, you can opt for the Multi-Day Pack, good for up to 5 days and can carry up to 80 liters. This is a good choice for warm weather camping.

Lastly, there's the Extended-Trip Backpack which carries 70 liters or more and is ideal for trips that last more than 5 nights. A great choice for winter treks or families that camp/hike together.

Fit

To make sure that you are carrying the weight on your back comfortably, you should get a backpack that fits your body perfectly. Look for one that's appropriate for your torso length and has a snug grip on your hips. So when at the store, be sure that you have an idea what your torso length is and your waist size.

Features

Different models of outdoor packs offer different features. Make sure you choose one with features that you would find useful and would personally use. Some common useful features to look into include ventilation, the number of pockets, padding and attachment points. Some camping or hiking backpacks even offer cool features like a removable top lid, a sleeping bag compartment, a rain cover and a water reservoir.

To ensure that you're comfortable on the trail or while camping carrying all the gear you need, choosing a good outdoor backpack is paramount. You should be able to feel comfortable o matter how long your trip is. Here's how to choose the best backpack for your camping and hiking trips!

Being in Paris gives you a vibe of being stunning. Whether you are in an alley or on the main road or the pavement there are people with a vibe of elegance in them. Several cafes and restaurants would let you increase your appetite. It is the feel of being amidst history and modern fashion.

There are mysterious unknown places to discover like the Underground tunnels Catacombs with the impressions of world war two that has bones and skeletons aesthetically placed and its told that it has about 6 to 7 million peoples bones that were killed during the French revolution and has a look of a cemetery. You would have to wait in a line unless you get a golden ticket booked previously on skip the line tickets section online. It costs about 40 US dollars but the place is worth visiting. This place is 20 meters below ground with a 14 degrees temperature It was build in the 12th century with lime stones and gives you a feeling of being in a mine we need to be there with a local TOUR guide.

If anyone has the curiosity of where to find the best baguettes French bread and pastries in town or want to see the Maison Kaiser the award winning bread maker who serves bread to the president. You need to walk around the streets of Paris with a list of best bakeries.

Le Grenier a Pain is one of the best bakeries in Paris and it has received several awards. There is a boulangerie in every corner of the city.

Traffic here is moderate but we might feel a little noisy and crowded sometimes. There would be scooters and cars crossing each other from the alley and roads even though there are lanes. Overall, it is quite safe to cross the lanes through signals. There would be an electric pole where you get the red and green button to push which is for pedestrians and vehicles to stop and wait at a periodic time there are cafes around the corner where you can sip your latte with baguette and watch the people go by. Like a cherry on top, you would find a free WI-Fi around every restaurant and sitting areas so there would be loads of communication and uploading of videos and pictures with your friends.

Chateau de Versailles has a fireworks show that was previously banned. Louis the 14th the king of France loved to be called the king of the Sun so the palace is filled with equipment that look like a sun and even the garden can give you glimpses of it.
Living in Paris can cost you a fortune. Many people opt for very small rooms unless you are a billionaire and want to spend your bucks. Try asking the French citizens who have lived here for several years for a moderate living place because a big room or an apartment can cost you almost 300 to 400 Euros. It all depends on the facility and area. The Champs Elysee is the most expensive area where a room can cost you 105 Euros with a separated kitchen and a big bedroom. SO choose wisely. Find a youth hostel or Airbnb through websites like couch surfing and book your place there on prior basis.
Paris has loads of food varieties but obviously It is rich, it is colorful, it is tasty and is made with the best of ingredients.

You will get loads in variety but the best is French onion soup with raisin bread, steak, seaweeds French fries and falafel. There is this item called Crepes and Croissant. It comes in varied varieties like chocolate to almond. Going to the Latin Quarter, you would find items ranging from seafood duck breast fries sausages ham bacon eggs and simply stunning vegetables. You can have a 3-course meal menu with either ten or sixteen Euros option is yours. You would have your choice of salad French fries and ham or sausage. (Only if you are a non-vegetarian) Not to forget the Baguette and cheese that goes together with a cup of coffee this place resembles a lot to the Indian street food area where we enjoy our spicy treats. Do not forget to try the Chocolate Fondue specially the egg bean with vanilla cream. You can learn the recipe from your hosts. Cheese is what will melt your mouth with its flavor ranging from Parmesan to Mozzarella.

Parisian life and Parisian food are both synonymous with each other. Their lives are exotic hardworking and always cheerful. Let's roam around today in the city of Paris and see what's the best that catches our heart.

Some will argue life at sea was easier back before regulations were established by the IMO, US Coast Guard and ABS. But was it really? Most of the ships were Foreign Flags. That meant long tours of duty and no union. Today you'll find seafarers prefer American flagships; the pay is better, and they're unionized. "There's a lot more paperwork today," says Third Mate Mike Loesch. "Instead of doing just the noon report, you're now doing three reports a day."

In 1875, nine Houses of Refuge were built along the Florida coast; between Miami and Jacksonville; every 25 miles. Each Refuge House was commissioned by the United States Life-Saving Service. They had a keeper whose only job was to maintain the house, keep it supplied of food, clothing, and walk the beaches after the storms. When they came across a shipwrecked sailor they gave him "refuge" in their house. The men got to stay for a week or two. Some got back on ships heading north. A lookout tower was built and used to watch for enemy submarines in World War II. Over the years they've been operated by the US Coast Guard and the Navy. Today only one house remains in Martin County on Gilbert's Bar. In 1976 it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

This year the IMO's theme for International Seafarer Day is well-being. Since this is a huge topic I thought I'd stay the course. And, enlist the help of a few seafarers. Tour duties last anywhere from 75 days to six months on board a ship. Before the sun even warms their faces, Third Mate Mike is on the bridge for his morning watch. Captain Tod is busy getting the morning report out before breakfast. After breakfast, Captain Tod continues his day responding to emails, handling personnel issues, payroll, orders, etc. Third Mate Mike attends to his safety inspections or maintenance if the chief mate needs it done. After lunch he relieves another third mate and stands watch till dinner. The end of his 12-hour day and another sunset. If the ship is docked, instead of standing watch on the bridge he would be in the cargo control room monitoring the cargo operations. Also making rounds on deck and checking the lines. One thing you don't need is the ship to slip away from the dock.

Hot and cold meals are provided three times a day. Breakfast is your standard fare. Lunch and dinner offers a variety of fish, meat and a salad bar. If anyone has a food allergy, like I do, you need to let the Captain know when you board the ship. According to Civilian Mariner Wendy, I would starve on the navy's ship. Their food is mostly deep-fried foods with a salad bar and overcooked veggies. Not exactly nutritious. I find this ironic since she's on a logistics ship. They provide other Navy and NATO ships with fuel, parts, food and sodas.

Must be inspection day today. Tensions are high. Everyone's stressed. Not sure why. To me an inspection is a good thing. If they find something wrong on the ship it gets reported, then fixed. Right? Well, not necessarily true. Each inspector has their own interpretation of how things should be done. Usually from first-hand experience years earlier when they crewed. Surely not how things are done today or what you were told to do. Regulations are changing all the time, and everyone is expected to adapt. However, resources are not always made available.

Woohoo! After countless sunsets of reds, pink and gray, land is finally in sight. The ship is heading into port where its crew members get to go onshore for a mental health break. The only question - is it full of security checkpoints or can you walk right off the ship and be in the middle of everything? Some guys like to get away or take a break. The ones that come in on a Foreign flagship usually head to Walmart before heading out again. Poor Wendy, that's when she gets the busiest. She arranges travel for any of her crew members that are leaving the ship for vacation. They don't get to leave the vessel until their replacement gets onboard. Mike and Captain Tod don't always go ashore either. They have this philosophy work is work. I don't always agree. Sometimes it's good to get off the ship for a change of scenery. Even if only for a couple hours. Maybe today, a few more crew members will join the ship. That would be a great help. Just like in corporate, the crew is asked to do more with less people. According to Mike, the difference is that the office building isn't going to run into something.

If you've read any of my stuff, you'll know safety is a mega concern. Crowley Maritime puts it high on their list as well. Every meeting starts with a safety and cultural moment which includes wellness and behavior. They realize to be a high performing company they must support their employees work life balance and health. Their trainings vary depending on the ship. Its operations. The seafarers and shore-

side personnel. Each petroleum ship has magnetic signs throughout the ship. "We don't want to be reactive," says David DeCamp, Sr Communicator, Strategist for Crowley Maritime. "We're thinking prevention and avoiding incidents as much as possible." Just remember, when you're on the ship, it's one hand for the ship and one hand for you. Keep your balance and stay safe.

Back riding the waves, the crew appears happy. Many sunrises and sunsets later end of tour duty is fast approaching. I begin to wonder what signs to watch for that people are ready to get off the ship. Oye! How do they handle the stress? After all, my stints on recreational boats are much shorter and less crew. So, I asked around.

"When the guys get quiet," says Mike. "If you're standing watch with them and for four hours they don't say one word when normally you'd be having a good conversation. After that you'll see them start fouling things up a lot. Some guys will just explode, or they'll do something - either conscientiously or subconscientiously - where it's jeopardizing their job."

Wendy says you'll hear of someone who starts giving things away. Saying goodbye to others on the ship or just seems despondent. These are usually signs of suicide, she says. Especially, amongst the younger crew members.

When it comes time to destress, hit the gym onboard the ship or do some form of exercise. Talk with your peers and find some alone time. Regular contact with your family is also important. Especially if you're married. It helps ease their stress as well. If email is not readily available, write those emails anyways, then once in port send them out all at once. Guaranteed the receiver will be looking forward to them. "Remember it's important to take care of yourself," says Captain Tod. "Not just mentally but physically. Sometimes you have-to eat that pastry at 3:00am or drink that thick coffee. Working long hours adds extra stress to your body both physically and mentally."

Finally, it's important to enjoy your time off. Isn't that one of the beauties of going to sea? Somebody else is doing your job on the ship for the next 75 days or however long your tour of duty is. Get rested up. Recharge. Then get ready to get back out there for those long hitches.

The apprehension of boarding an airplane today is well founded. Practically every one associates the fear of flying with a foreboding sense that the plane will actually crash. They may have a valid point; because now, most of the commercial airlines have eliminated two engines on their aircraft. This, for the sake of cutting fuel costs has jeopardized passenger safety. A prime example occurred in January of 2009 when a commercial jet with only two engines both shut down during ascent which forced that plane to make a miraculous landing in the Hudson River. Had there been four engines mounted the decibel level would have been loud enough to scare birds and other foul farther away so that what caused those engines failure wouldn't have happened. Only through the skill and knowledge of the pilot and crew a tragedy was adverted.

This is just one prime example of how the commercial airline industry has cut costs in lieu of public safety. Today, with the ever increasing demand to keep profit margins steady, and the continuing threat of terrorism the commercial airlines and government has instituted protocols, procedures, rules, regulations and mandates that the general public now finds very intimidating and daunting when it comes time to book, board, and travel via air. Also, adding to this dilemma that the airline industry is faced with is the growing number of individuals who are so obese that the normal size aircraft passenger seats are too small to accommodate those passengers. This is because airlines have continually revamped commercial jets to include more passenger seats. Another ploy to increase revenue and at the same time decrease passenger safety and comfort. It is just recently that some air lines have began the long over due replacement of their out dated aircraft. Most airlines continue to use aircraft that are more than 20 years old. This has to be a major safety concern.

Gone are the days when airlines treated all its passengers like guests on a luxury ocean liner; where the amities and service by the crew was exemplary. Many of the amities like food and beverages were all included as well as your luggage in the purchase price of your ticket. What has transpired in the past 30 years is a complete elimination of the kinds of service that made air travel such a pleasure. Replaced with a bare bones service one would expect when traveling on a crowded subway car in rush hour. Some airlines are going even further in dashing any hope that air travel would once again put the pleasure back in passenger service. They are now implementing vertical seating {a new terminology} where passengers now book airfare as standing room only. This means that certain airlines now are putting profit to even greater heights ahead of passenger safety and well being. Imagine a subway car so crowded people are strapped in like sardines in a can. The mere thought of traveling this way is irrepressible. Sad to say this is a reality being offered in some commercial airlines today.

Any time when an industry blatantly puts financial gain ahead of safety that industry incurs greater financial loss and the respect of the general public. Does BP and the oil disaster in the Gulf sound familiar? What the commercial airline industry has inadvertently done by all those additional fees, continued use of outdated aircraft, lack of amities and the continuing rising cost of tickets is rendering the commercial aviation industry incapable of being a major contributor to the economic expansion that is so crucial for the United States economic recovery.

In understanding the fear of flying in today's world one has to realize that with the constant threat of terrorism [a real eminent threat to any one who travels regardless of the particular mode of transport] the new instituted rules, procedures and regulations are in place to help make us safer. They also help deter those individuals who are bent of rendering devastation and harm to the public. Still many view these new protocols as intrusive and infringe on our social liberties. A very sad commentary of the world we live in today.

What the commercial aviation industry must do is streamline all those new regulations when boarding and regain the attitude of putting passenger comfort and safety back ahead of profit. That old saying in business "Give the public what they want at a price they can afford, repeat business is rest assured." This same philosophy has to apply to the commercial airline industry. Even with the security measures that are now in place the fear of flying just might be reduced and more individuals will experience a renewed sense of pleasure and safety when traveling by air.

It is well known that Can Picafort is directly related to its urbanistic development in these last 30 years, but it's also true that Can Picafort is a spot full of history.

Located nearby sites of Bronze Era, the first known significant settlement of the area takes us back to VII century before Christ, like archaeological remains shown us on the S'illot d'es Porros or the cemetery of Phoenicians.

The tasks of conservation have discovered important findings in both necropolis and the access has been allowed to visitors. Today, Son Bauló is one of the most highly valued beach of Mallorca and is located inside of the Natural protected area of special interest of Son Real.

The most recent history of Can Picafort has only one century. At that moment, Can Picafort was a small fishing village that subsisted thanks to agriculture and fishery. At that time, having farmland provided richness, in fact, by that time, huge amounts of costal lands were for sale. The Mallorcans that bought those lands have now a huge fortune. And back to the beginning of the century some rich families from Santa Margalida moved to Can Picafort. One of these families bought the land from Jeroni Fuster, alias Picafort, one of those fisherman's houses, and the former owner gave the name to the town, Can Picafort.

Until the 70's, Can Picafort had 200 citizens. These first families set the basis of Can Picafort development, and now has become one of the more interesting touristic spots of the island, mainly for German and English people, but you also can find tourists from all around the world.

Walking in Can Picafort

While walking in Can Picafort you will find red and white towels that it immediately catches your eyes. Those construction are distributed uniformly in all the coast. These towels were constructed from the 40's until the 70's and were military constructions used by the marine for submarine firing practice in the Alcudia bay.

An illustration of the town respect for its history is that one of those towels is now in just on the town center just in the middle of a street and the cars have to border it to circulate.

Furthermore, the growing tourism in Can Picafort resulted in an increasing better tourist offer at all levels: gastronomy, shops, sea activities, beach clubs in Ses Casetes des Capellans.

However, it is worthy to visit its beaches and all the activities in the beaches. One of the best ones is the Son Bauló beach, located between Can Picafort and Son Serra de Marina where there is no one on the beach in the August month. But if you prefer crowded beaches your best choice is Muro beach, just at the North of Can Picafort.

Close to Can Picafort is located Son Serra de Marina, this town has not grown as Can Picafort does, but its population grow in summer time because of Mallorcans have placed their second residence there. Son Serra de Marina has 3 beaches and has become a place of pilgrimage for surfers.

Decades ago, Can Picafort beaches were totally virgin, full of bushes. These last years, the town council has enabled the area to give better access to tourists and show a gentle and comfortable side of the beaches.

Turism in Can Picafort

In these day there is a family tourism, because Can Picafort is away from big city concentrations and it's surrounded by nature.

One of the growing demands of tourists is to rent a boat in Can Picafort. The Alcudia bay, and specially Can Picafort offers all the possibilities that the sea lovers search: beautiful landscapes, sea, cute towns, and the most important, crystal clear waters.

As a proof of that, the Can Picafort Nautical club has increased the number of moorings from 80 to 450 in the last years.

The middle age tourist with middle/high purchasing power has increased the number of boats rented in the Alcudia bay. Some of the experimented sailors like to rent boats with license to enjoy with their family the Alcudia bay by sea.

However, the offer that the young tourists like the most is the boat rental without license, that provides them freedom amazing experiences without needing to have a boat license.

Navigating in Alcudia bay is something that the tourist should experience at least once in their lifetime. The chance of visiting spots difficult to access on foot, enjoying the Tramuntana line of Mountains and the Levante line of Mountains at the same time or having a bath on a sunset is our best recommendation to do in Can Picafort.

Location of the Alcudia Bay.

The Alcudia Bay is located in the northwest of Majorca. One of its main cities is Can Picafort, which is located beside other touristic locations such as Betlem, Colonia de Sant Pere or Alcudia.

In addition, since 2017, the city council of Palma has enabled buses which run every 60 minutes from the Majorcan airport to Can Picafort, making it easier for tourists to see all the protected areas at the Alcudia Bay.

Interesting harbours to rent a boat at the Alcudia Bay.

Navigation has become an appealing attraction at Alcudia Bay because its crystal clear water has been world-wide recognized as one of the best in Europe. Both, the navigation newbies or the experts in navigation can find a wide offer to rent a boat in the area.

From all the marinas at the bay, the Alcudia harbour and the Can Picafort harbour deserve special attention: The Alcudia harbour because of its large capacity and because it owes its name to the bay, and Can Picafort because recently it has become a point of concentration for tourists who choose to visit spots away from the crowd of big cities, and who find in Can Picafort or Colonia de Sant Pere or Betlem the desired serenity.

The reason why you can make the most of your day boat rental there is because Can Picafort is in the heart of the Alcudia Bay. If you decide to navigate up north heading to Pollensa, you will discover amazing spots such as Cala Figuera o Cala Formentor, Coll Baix o Ses Caletes. However, if you decide to navigate towards the southeast, then you will enjoy the most amazing spots of the bay: Colonia de Sant Pere, where the nature fuses with the sea. The voyage offers lots of unforgettable moments when sailing across the Natural Park of Levante, one of the two areas of special protection in Majorca. The calm of its waters invites you to stop at any of its secret coves and to go for a swim and to relax contemplating the two biggest mountain ranges at the same time: Tramuntana and Levante.

Enjoy your sailing experience.

Tourists have a wide range of offers to choose from. In any of the marinas, tourists will find boat rental companies.

Most of the boat rental companies have boats with or without license. This determines the type of boat to rent, which allows experts and newbies to enjoy the freedom and disconnect from the daily hard work.

Once onboard there are multiple options. Anchoring in any of the unknown coves of the bay, going for a swim or sunbathing on the deck. However, these options are not the only ones. Others are snorkelling, wakeboarding, fishing or even making the most of the culinary offer that the bay offers, like "sobrasada", "pà amb oli" or any of the delicious Majorcan wine onboard. Each visitor decides how to make their sailing experience a unique moment.

The best boat rental company at the Alcudia Bay.

A good way to choose from the wide boat offer at the Alcudia Bay is reading the customers' comments carefully. Another way would be to visit the official webpages to check the technical characteristics and capacity of each boat and choose the one that meets your needs.

At this point it is clear that you must experience navigating at the Alcudia Bay at least once in your lifetime. Also, it is the best starting point to make your dreams come true.

An island almost mythical. We start today an atmospheric journey.

It is the island of Amorgos with its endless blue, Amorgos with its energy fields, its glittering light, and its poetic beauty.

The island of Amorgos, the birthplace of the poetry and of the poet Nikos Gatsos.

Located on the south end of the Cyclades but in the heart of the Aegean Archipelagos. A day tour on one of the special islands of Greece.

7: oo am.

As the day's first-day boat departs from Aegiali, heading West towards the Cyclades and Piraeus. We guess on the faces of the passengers the possible end of their vacation, and this sweet fatigue that leaves you a nice trip when it reaches its end. However, our day tour in Amorgos just begun.

8:40 am, South East of Cyclades

Amorgos, it is said that it took its name from the "Amorgis" plant as a kind of flax with which Amorgos tunics were made off. It is located at the north end of the Cyclades, after Naxos and the Small Cyclades. With two natural harbors, Katapola and Aegiali, and an incredibly beautiful "hora", one of the most beautiful of the Cyclades, Amorgos seem to intersect the Aegean Sea and its vastness.

9:35 am, the Amorgian Pastel

We start our day with a sweet the traditional Amorgian pasteli and a Greek coffee of course.

Amorgos is famous for some traditional and favorite products such as pasteli, rose-sugar, raki, raki...

Rose Sugar is a unique product made from wild rose petals that bloom in May that are kneaded with sugar and lemon. Pastel is made with honey and sesame seeds. It is the sweet offered on lemon balm, in case of baptism and celebrations, always accompanied with raki.

10:42 am, the "Captain Morgan" of the Cyclades

The French love Amorgos and Amorgos the French. In this long-lasting relationship of love and mutual respect, the story of Bertrand stands out. Bertrand from Amorgos made a long journey to almost all the world to return with his boat to Amorgos. Today he organizes cruises with a traditional-boat in the Aegean, which he considers the best place for such trips.

12:15 pm, a bit closer to God.

Visit the monastery of Ag. Georgios of Valsamitis.

A point where ancient times, Orthodoxy, a famous watermill, the god Apollo, Saint George, the water that foretells what will happen in the future, and the constant search for the truth, exist altogether. In the 8th century, an icon was found at that point and so a monastery was built. Today it is a place of spiritual uplifting, tranquility, serenity and internal search.

13:30 pm A long journey in the "chora"

The capital of the island, "chora" of Amorgos features the classic Cycladic beauty with narrow, cobbled streets, whitewashed two-storey houses, arches, and countless churches. The picture is completed with immaculate white, crystal nearly blue sky and the loud, warm colors of the bougainvillea.

All of these are known and beloved in our Cycladic color palette.

Another characteristic is the typical hill with windmills, which gaze out over the Aegean Sea.

A big contradiction if you consider the years of pirate raids. These winding, narrow streets, this maze of the "chora" served then to escape of inhabitants, who ran and lost in here to escape from the pirates.

14:45 pm, Meeting with the history

A visit to the folk museum, where the island's historical archives are hosted. This archive has been collected over many decades and has been digitized in recent years. The archive has documents from 300 years ago.

In the documents, it is reflected the lifestyle of the inhabitants of the island and the changes that intervened during the centuries. Important historical facts and figures about the older picture of Amorgos are also on these pages of files. You can even find recorded, natural phenomena and disasters affecting the landscape but also the economy - society of the island.

15:45 pm, St Anne and the Virgin Mary of Hozoviotissa

Saint Anne, mother of the Virgin Mary and the Virgin Mary symbolically meets here on the East side of the island.

We are talking about the famous little chapel of St. Anne and the famous beach, with fantastically aquamarine colors of the water that formed the natural backdrop for the movie of Luc Mpesson "Big Blue". The Ag. Anna looks like it is here in an ongoing conversation with the monastery of Virgin Mary of Hozoviotissa, which stands for nine centuries perched up there on the steep slope.

Amorgos is famous for its hiking trails. The most famous route is the climb to the monastery of Hozoviotissa, 300 stairs and many stopovers to enjoy this sensational view that is breathtaking. Stand here, and admire the vastness of the world in one of the biggest and nicest balconies.

16:20 pm, Facing the Aegean Sea, seeking God

Built in defiance of the landscape, and at the same time extolling the greatness of the world, hooked on steep rocks, the monastery of Hozoviotissa looks poised as a miracle.

It seems to balance on a thin rope that separates the material world from the spiritual Hymn to human will, and faith. Almost against natural laws, a meteor in the Aegean. Meteor as the thousands of unanswered questions of mankind. The monastery was built in 1088 and the occasion for its inauguration was to find the icon of the Virgin Mary who arrived here from Hozhova in Palestine, a place near the Holy Land and Jericho.

An island, an immense blue embrace, and a miraculous place that affects the soul of the people

18:30 the Vespers and the Castle

We return to the "chora" and is already the hour of Vespers.

Visit then the many churches in the "chora" and we are heading towards the Castle that dominates on the rock in the middle of the village.

It is there since the 13th century. It is a Venetian building. At the top of the cliff will lead you a steep staircase built on the north side, while to exit the Castle you pass first from the chapel of Ag. George. From the Castle now the view is panoramic and reaches up to Naxos, the small Cyclades, and IOS. From this point, the inhabitants could control the sea of Naxos and Astypalaia.

21:45 pm, "Amorgiano mou perasma»

Stop at the coffee shop with traditional music played by young musicians. Amorgos is famous for the revels organized at every opportunity...

Amorgos by N. Gatsos

To a green star

Evil witnesses to men are eyes and ears if they have barbarian souls. HERACLITUS

With their country strapped to the sails their oars suspended in the wind

the shipwrecked slept tame as dead beasts on sheets of sponges

but the eyes of the seaweed are turned to the sea

lest the south wind bear them back with new-dyed sails

and a lost elephant is always worth a little more than the two breasts of a

trembling girl.

only let the roofs of ruined mountain chapels light up with desire for the

evening star

let the birds come in waves to the masts of the lemon trees

with the strong white gasps of new steps

and then the winds will come the bodies of swans that remain mild unsoiled

still

into the steamrollers of shops in the cyclones of cabbage patches

when the eyes of the women became dark and the hearts of the chestnut

sellers broke

when the harvest was stopped and the hopes of the crickets began.

The most important thing to remember when it comes to camping is that you should always come prepared. Even if you constantly check the weather forecast, it doesn't guarantee a rain-free trip. Let's face it, it's not as fun to camp when it's pouring outside, but it doesn't mean that the enjoyment should stop!

Your trip will only be ruined if you don't properly respond to the conditions at hand. So here are 5 helpful tips for camping in the rain that you should practice:

Prepare Appropriate Clothing

When you're preparing to head outdoors and the forecast says the weather will be bright and sunny, that doesn't mean that you should only bring clothes for sunny weather. As mentioned, the weather outdoors is unpredictable so at the very least, bring a waterproof jacket, pants and boots. A rain poncho should always be included in your to-bring, too.

If you're expecting rain, bring the abovementioned pieces of clothing, bring a wide-brimmed hat (it's better to keep water off your face compared to a hood). It's also ideal to pack layers of clothing (bring some extra in case you get wet!) and don't forget an extra pair or two of socks!

Choose a good spot to set up camp

If you're about to camp in the rain, it's most ideal to pitch your tent on high ground. Keep in mind that water runs downhill and you don't want to get all soaked while sleeping by setting up camp on the bottom of a hill. The norm would be to choose a flat surface but during rainy weather, it would be better to set up your campsite on slightly sloped terrain.

It would also help to lay a waterproof tarp on your tent floor to collect rainwater that will eventually pool under the tent. Don't forget to waterproof your tent, beforehand, too!

Opt for no-cook meals

You know that cooking at a campsite isn't that easy, what more when it's pouring? While you can still enjoy hot soups and warm beverages, save yourself the hassle of cooking by preparing meals that don't require cooking like salads and sandwiches. Most of your meals should be ready to eat. Just think of it as less gear to carry (no heavy pans to bring!)

Keep these tips for camping in the rain in mind and even heavy downpour won't be able to get in the way of your camping fun!

If you have ever had the pleasure of sailing a boat or being on board a sailing boat while chartering the oceans, then you will know just how amazing the feeling is and how great a choice it is for a way of taking a break from the normal day to day life habits that you are usually working your way through. Everyone needs a holiday every now and again, even when you are one of the lucky percent that find their way to working in a job that they love, however even for those fortunate souls, holidaying and breaking away from the norm, doing something different and having some new experiences in new environments is (in my opinion) so important for maintaining a healthy and happy mind body and soul. There are of course many ways that a person can go about their holiday plans, that will all depend on what they have been missing in their recent 'normal' life routine and there will be holidays to relax, holidays to experience, holidays to learn, holidays to party, romantic holidays, family holidays and solo self-development holidays; the ones where you go in search of yourself?

After I went on my first learn-to-sail holiday several years ago, I realized that I was getting a whole variety of experiences and enjoyments out of the one single holiday and ultimately the goal is to come out the other side with some new skills and perhaps one day, after a number of these learning to sail vacations, I might just have soaked up enough information and learned so much from the experienced teachers and sailing crews, that I will be able to attain a boat captains certificate & license and be able to charter a yacht myself to take the wife & little ones island hoping. This might all sound like a pipe dream, but it is certainly a realistic goal and an amazing one at that! So I can really recommend this type of holiday as a fantastic way to 'get away from it all' and really de-stress oneself. The feeling of being on the ocean and feeling the wind in your air, breathing in the freshest of air, is really an amazing feeling. Then due to the fact that you are learning a new skill and perhaps getting out of your normal 'comfort zone', you are usually going to be really just concentrating on what you are doing at that specific time, which is in a way providing a similar effect on the mind as you would get from meditating. So your mind is taken away from your usual thoughts and worries and put in a place of concentration. After a week or two of this holidaying while learning, you will come back to your normal life feeling totally new and refreshed and ready to take on the world. Give it a try - you will be seriously impressed and surprised about how different the whole experience will make you feel.

Which Type of Sailing Course Should You be Enrolling For?

So, you might now be buying into the idea of getting involved in the whole sailing sport and commencing by planning out where you will be going and who with, but where do you start? & what course should you be starting with you might ask? Also, what is the difference between the two main recognized sailing certificate authorities; RYA & ASA? Don't let these initial flood of questions put you off though, as it really is not so daunting when you get down to it - RYA is the sailing license attained from UK licensing authorities & ASA is a license awarded by US sailing authorities and there really is not so many difference between the two. In my experience and opinion, I would say that the RYA courses are more thorough and offer a higher learning than the courses & teachers you can expect when partaking in acquiring the American, ASA certificates and end license. RYA is probably more widely recognized and trusted around the world and for this reason will likely open up more doors for you, the only draw-back would be in how it is a more intense course and perhaps takes more effort and is more taxing on your energy reserves. So if you are already drained of all your energy and you want to avoid any circumstances of intense, full-on learning, then I would advise that you skip the RYA courses and opt for the more simplified ASA learning. So after deciding which license/sailing certificates you will be working towards, then what's next? Which course of the variety of different skills you need to be learning do you start with? Fortunately this is quite a simple decision to make due to the name of the course - 'Start Yachting'. So the name speaks for itself and makes it quite obvious that it would be your first step towards your sailing future. So now that you know more about how to get your 'foot in the door' and where you should get started when participating in a learn to sail holiday, why not start looking for the perfect place to go and start with your first sailing course. Go with some close friends or take the family and enjoy a unique vacation that will give you a much needed break away from all your normal life responsibilities. I am almost certain you will be thankful for taking my advice and all being well; you will have taken your first steps towards a new hobby that you will thoroughly enjoy for many years to come.

5. Have some emergency cash on hand
Just because you have your bank cards available, doesn't mean that they will be accepted at every establishment. It's good to have some extra cash on hand in the local currency, especially for smaller purchases.

6. Determine what documents you need to enter the country
Most countries require a passport that is valid for six months or more after your return date. You may also require a visa or special documents to enter the country as well.

For example, I needed to purchase a visa in order to enter Turkey earlier this year.

7. Check with your doctor or insurance provider
Before traveling, it's best to check with your doctor or insurance provider to see if you will require any prescription medications or vaccines before your trip.

You may also require a note from your doctor to allow you to bring certain prescription medications into the country.

8. Research what you can / cannot bring inside the country
The last thing you want to do is to arrive at your destination and find out that some of the items you packed are not allowed into the country. This could be seeds or certain food. Check ahead to avoid any unnecessary disruptions.

9. Check the weather forecast before leaving
I like to do this about a week before, then just a day before to make sure that I pack appropriately. If it's cold at home but you're traveling to a warm climate, chances are you don't need to bring a heavy jacket.

Also, rain may pop up in the forecast which means you'll need an umbrella. Check ahead so you can pack accordingly.

10. Research local customs and etiquette where you're visiting
It's always a good idea to read up a little on the local customs, culture and etiquette so you will know what to expect while traveling internationally.

Sometimes a hand gesture in one country may carry a different meaning in another country; you may need to dress more conservatively than you would back home; tipping policies may vary too - either way, you don't want to do something silly that could have been avoided if you did your research beforehand.

11. Research events and festivals happening while you're in town
Knowing if there are any major events happening while you're in town is good to know. You may want to attend a concert, a festival or just in general, be aware of what's taking place in the city.

12. Flip through guide books
I know some travelers prefer not to consult with travel books, but I always like to flip through them to get tips, see what sights or attractions are worth visiting, etc.

Many of them also include maps of the different neighborhoods in the city, so it gives you a better understanding of the layout of the city. If you don't want to invest in a guidebook, you can borrow one for free from your local library.

13. Get adapters / converters for your electronic devices
This should be self-explanatory, but not every country has the same voltage. You can always pick one up from the airport if you forget, but you will pay more there. Instead, I recommend picking up a world travel adapter before your trip.

14. Learn a few key phrases in the local language
One of the best things you can do is to learn at least one keyword or phrase in the local language. Even if you don't sound like a native, the locals will still appreciate your efforts.

I noticed that this was especially true while I was in Paris. Even though I could only say a few words, I could tell they appreciated that I tried to communicate with them in French first before switching to English.

Also, don't assume that everyone knows English, because this is not the case. Once you step outside of the main tourist spots, fewer and fewer people speak English.

15. Watch a video on how to use the city's public transit system
Most metropolitan cities are equipped with a decent public transit system. Instead of paying the high price for taxis, try learning how to use the city's public transit. You'll save money and get around town quicker than by car.

If you do decide to hire a car, check ahead to see if you require an international driver's license.

16. Determine a plan for your mobile phone
Whenever I leave the country, I always turn off my mobile data and switch to airplane mode. I use the city's WiFi to make calls and text using apps like Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger.

If you require data, talk with your phone provider ahead of time to determine the right plan for you.

17. Buy tickets for places you want to visit / see before you leave
Sometimes you can get a discount when you buy your tickets in advance. This also allows you to skip the ticket line and save time while you're on holidays.

18. Research how to get to your hotel from the airport
To avoid paying high taxi prices it's a good idea to research the best way to get to your hotel from the airport. Sometimes taxis offer a flat rate which you should know beforehand in case they try to rip you off.

Most options include taking a shuttle, private car or using the city's public transit.

By knowing how much each option costs and how long each option will take, you'll be able to make a choice that fits your budget and needs.

19. Research local tourist scams where you will be visiting
Chances are you'll be able to spot a scam, but unfortunately this is not always the case. Understanding what to look for is a smart idea so you can prevent being a victim of a scam.

Always keep your wits about you and your personal bags in sight at all times.

20. Pack some over-the-counter medication and toiletries with you
I understand some people want to pack lightly by leaving their toiletries at home, thinking that they'll be able to buy them at their destination.

Keep in mind however that some items might be hard to find in other countries. If you are traveling to Korea, it will be hard to find deodorant there, so make sure to bring some with you when you visit.
